The Impossible Quiz – Review

The Impossible Quiz logoI must admit that it has been a while since I’ve found such an annoying game. It’s chaotic and ridiculous and sometimes makes me smash the phone, even though I was laughing with tears a couple of seconds ago. But these features is what defines The Impossible Quiz.

The Impossible Quiz is an app made by inXile’s Sparkworkz, developers of Line Rider and Fantastic Contraption. It consists of over 100 questions for which you only have 3 lives. I say only because…well, I am going to let you see exactly why.  One wrong answer will make you poorer with one life. The good thing is that every 10 questions you kind of level-up, so to speak, which will give you the possibility to skip a really, really difficult question (you cannot chose the difficult question). Some are multiple choice questions, but sometimes you may be required to do some apparently easy tasks.

The pro’s for The Impossible Quiz is that can be very addicting. The addiction is constantly fed by the curiosity to know what weird question will be next (honestly ‘weird’ is kind of an understatement). However, as hilarious as it may be, The Impossible Quiz can be really frustrating. This also I will let to figure out why. All I can say to you is that you must not take the game seriously, otherwise you will spoil all the fun. After all, that is why you download it…for fun. Remember that! Even if there is no pattern, you will kind of figure it out after you start over a few times.

Question from the impossible quizThe game’s style is nothing special. Not that it matters, to be honest. The drawings look like they are made by a bunch of preschoolers and the goofy music on the background is made to entertain them. But seriously, it doesn’t matter. The Impossible Quiz is not made to impress you with its graphics. After all, your attention will be pointed towards the fact that the game is impossible.

Beside the pros, there are the cons. I consider that there are too few lives.  The game’s difficulty is far too great for only 3 lives. I know that many will contradict me because hey…that is the game’s charm. And they would be right, if it wouldn’t add up to the lack of consistency regarding the questions and/or the answers. There is no logical pattern so your chances to reach the end are very, very slim. You will notice that memory will help you better than logical thinking.

Another thing that I find wrong with The Impossible Quiz is the order of the questions. I would have preferred if it was random and not the same. Why? Because once you die and you want to start over you have to go through the same questions all over again and it can become really boring. So a random order would make you go through more questions, not the same questions over and over again.

Overall, The Impossible Quiz is fun to play, even though the addictive feature will wear off at some point. The good thing is that you can tell your friends about it and have a good laugh together. After all, it’s supposed to entertain you. And even though there is a weird balance between fun and frustration, in my opinion it’s worth the 1$ it costs.

The Impossible Game – Review

Impossible Game logo

I mustn’t tell you that the internet is over flowed with games, but there are a few which go viral simply because they are really annoying and are not easy to play. A good example of such a game is The Impossible Game.

It may not seem much at first, the graphics are not extraordinary, but, as the title suggests, it’s impossible to play. Basically, the entire game revolves around squares and triangles. All you have to do is not let the square hit any obstacle it comes across. Seems easy, right? Wrong! It’s impossible to finish a level on the first attempt…or the second…or the third. The frustration will envelop you entirely.

The most frustrating thing is, that when you fail (which you will, miserably, without question) you will start back at the very beginning of the level. The game offers a practice mode in which you can place flags at some points in order to not send you back at the beginning when you die. But this is what makes The Impossible Game so addictive. You must get from start to finish with only one life. Don’t let yourself believe you can do that easily. It’s specially made to be so hard to play.

The Impossible Game seems easy at the first glance. You may think that it’s just a simple game, as are all the rest. You couldn’t be more wrong. This is, apparently, a mistake everybody makes. I start to suspect that this is the main reason it went viral on the first place. Everybody thought that they can do it, only to fail miserably.

Attempt 17 on Impossible GameThe set up is interesting, and the way you have to move that square around, to climb and to jump over obstacles doesn’t present anything out of the ordinary. It’s the difficulty that gets you. The music is some old techno style, like the ones we used to have on old computer games. Nonetheless, you won’t think about it. It may occur to you at some point that it’s too repetitive, but trust me, that will be the least of your concern.

So…frustration is everything this game will provide. But it’s the good kind, since you will tend to try again and again. You will start as a somewhat over achiever, you will fail over and over again, only to feel a great accomplishment when you make it at the end of the level. One thing is for sure though: once you finish The Impossible Game, you will feel repulsed by it. The only mention will be the one to your friends, bragging about finishing it (I don’t guarantee that they will believe you though).

The game came out some time ago, but it still has it. If you enjoyed The Xbox version, you will love this one too. If you are one of those people who cannot stop until finishing something, or you have a thing for difficult games, The Impossible Game is the one for you.
